Cadmium telluride power generation glass

Product Definition:

Cadmium telluride (CdTe) photovoltaic glass is a photovoltaic cell formed by sequentially depositing multiple layers of semiconductor thin films on a glass substrate, based on a heterojunction of p-type CdTe and n-type CdS (cadmium sulfide). It offers advantages such as low manufacturing cost, low temperature coefficient, environmental friendliness, and high theoretical conversion efficiency. Cadmium telluride, the core raw material, is a highly stable chemical compound of tellurium and cadmium. Due to its unique product properties, CdTe thin-film cells currently hold the highest market share among thin-film battery types.

Product Size Specifications:

The standard unit module is 2400×1600mm, and the power of a single component can reach up to 550W.

Product Structure:

The structure of cadmium telluride thin-film solar cells is relatively simple. It consists of five layers, namely glass substrate, transparent conductive oxide layer (TCO layer), cadmium sulfide (CdS) window layer, cadmium telluride (CdTe) absorption layer, back contact layer and back electrode.

Product Features:

(1) Good weak light performance

CdTe is a direct bandgap material with good absorption of the entire spectrum. Therefore, its luminous effect in weak light conditions such as early morning, evening, snow, dust, and haze is significantly better than that of indirect bandgap crystalline silicon cells.

(2) Low temperature coefficient

CdTe material has a relatively low thermal expansion coefficient and thermal conductivity, so its performance is stable when working at high temperatures. The temperature coefficient of cadmium telluride thin-film solar cell modules is about -0.21~0.25%/℃, which is about half that of crystalline silicon solar cells. This means that in high temperature environments, cadmium telluride solar cells can generate more power than crystalline silicon solar cells.

(3) High conversion efficiency

The bandgap width of CdTe is generally around 1.47eV. This width makes its spectral response very compatible with the solar spectrum and has a high absorption rate. It can absorb more than 90% of visible light with a thickness of only 1μm, which is 1/100 of that of single-crystalline silicon. It is very suitable for making the absorption layer of thin-film solar cells and is an important prerequisite for achieving low cost and low energy consumption. The theoretical photoelectric conversion efficiency of cadmium telluride solar cells is approximately 28-29%, and the technology has great potential for development. (4) Low cost The film thickness required for the absorption layer of cadmium telluride power generation glass is thin, the amount of raw materials used is small, and the cost is highly competitive. In addition, the manufacturing process is relatively simple, making it easier to achieve large-scale production. (5) Good power generation stability The spectral absorption of cadmium telluride thin-film solar cell modules does not cover the absorption peak of water vapor, so the power output will not decrease in humid climates like crystalline silicon modules. Crystalline silicon cells inherently have the characteristics of light-induced degradation, and the conversion efficiency gradually decreases during the use cycle, while cadmium telluride power generation glass does not have light-induced degradation characteristics.
