Equip photovoltaics with the “strongest brain”!

On September 8, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration jointly issued the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting High-Quality Development of 'Artificial Intelligence +' Energy" (hereinafter referred to as the "Implementation Opinions"). These Opinions explicitly propose promoting the deep integration of artificial intelligence and the energy industry to support high-quality development and high-level energy security.

 



The "Implementation Opinions" are based on expanding application scenarios for the deep integration of AI and energy, with a primary focus on improving the level of innovative AI application technologies in the energy sector. They propose that by 2027, a preliminary integrated innovation system for energy and AI will be established; by 2030, specialized AI technologies and applications in the energy sector will reach world-leading levels.

 

Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, my country's intelligent computing capacity has expanded rapidly, and data centers have become a major source of electricity consumption. Data shows that in 2024, the total electricity consumption of data centers nationwide will reach 166 billion kWh, a year-on-year growth rate of approximately 10.7%, exceeding the 6.8% growth rate of overall electricity consumption and the 9.8% growth rate of the tertiary industry. It is estimated that by 2030, the average electricity load of my country's data centers will reach 105 million kWh, with an average annual total electricity consumption of approximately 525.76 billion kWh, accounting for 4.8% of total electricity consumption in the entire society.

 

This shows that the continued development of AI relies not only on large-scale computing infrastructure but also urgently requires green and sustainable energy support. As an important representative of clean energy, photovoltaics not only provide low-carbon electricity for high-energy-consuming data centers, but also serve as an important guarantee for the sustainable development of the artificial intelligence industry.




 At the same time, artificial intelligence technology is becoming a key support for the photovoltaic industry to break through development bottlenecks.

Protecting power grid security

Due to climatic conditions, photovoltaic power output exhibits significant intermittent and fluctuating characteristics, posing a significant challenge to the safe and stable operation of power systems due to its large-scale integration into the grid. However, the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, leveraging its high-precision power generation forecasting and intelligent operation and maintenance (O&M) capabilities, can effectively improve the efficiency and reliability of photovoltaic systems while significantly reducing O&M costs.

The market competition paradigm is undergoing a fundamental shift—from a focus on scale expansion to one focused on improving quality and efficiency. The conference proposed an integrated new energy intelligent production model of "weather forecast + power forecast + smart transaction + intelligent operation and maintenance" created by artificial intelligence, clarified the key tasks for the development of integrated applications of artificial intelligence + new energy, and brought about all-round changes to the photovoltaic industry.

Weather forecast and power prediction

Leveraging AI's powerful data analysis capabilities, combined with vast amounts of historical meteorological data, real-time weather monitoring data, and photovoltaic power plant power generation data, precise weather forecasts can be achieved, providing advance knowledge of future weather conditions, such as cloud density, movement direction, and coverage. This more refined meteorological data acts like a "high-definition lens" for forecasting, allowing AI systems to proactively capture key variables influencing photovoltaic power generation, accurately estimate the power generation of photovoltaic power plants, and provide a reliable basis for power dispatch.


Smart Trading

Based on high-precision power forecasts, artificial intelligence can deeply analyze power market supply and demand dynamics and price fluctuations. Taking into account the strong low-light performance and low attenuation characteristics of CdTe solar glass, it accurately recommends optimal trading strategies, helping PV power plants efficiently release green electricity during peak electricity price periods and maximize power generation returns.

Smart Site Operation and Maintenance

Leveraging the superior low-light performance and environmental adaptability of CdTe solar glass modules, an integrated intelligent control system is built to integrate air-ground, multi-machine collaborative intelligent operation and maintenance systems, enabling precise positioning and automatic fault diagnosis of CdTe photovoltaic modules.
